Things I Learned
Ok, as most of you know, I was able to attend TimeOut for Women in AZ with the Cuthbertson girls. It was so good that I want to share a few things that I learned. These really don’t pertain to the men, but tough. Merrilee Boyack, the author of “Wifehood 101″, gave these 5 tips to being a better wife:
#1~Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods But Him-ofcourse meaning no other intimate partners. Your husband should be your best friend, someone you can spill your guts to. She used the words “emotional allegence” as a way to describe the closness needed in a marriage.
#2~Do Not Take His Name in Vain-this means no husband bashing. Mom, we know how you hate bashing. Don’t ever violate the trust between a husband and wife. She quoted Pres. Faust saying that doing this “demeans masculinity”.
#3~Fan The Flame-this was my personal favorite. I am a romantic at heart. She says that women should attempt to look good for him, talk with him not at him, have fun, compliment him, and have a Date Night. She said that your marraige should have priority over your children.
#4~Problem Ownership-this means that if there is a problem in a marriage, take responsibility to fix your part. And don’t try to fix all of his problems.
#5-Act As If-she says “treat him as if he has that attribute and over time he will act as if he has it and it will change him”. If you want your husband to be a stronger spiritual leader in the home, act as if he already is, and allow him to become that.
This woman has the amazing talent of making the whole audience laugh at one moment and taking her message very seriously after that. I loved her humor and how she emphasized how important it is to improve and hold sacred our marriage. At one point she encouraged us to have all the children in bed by 9 p.m.-she says the purpose of bedtime is so husbands and wives can be husbands and wives again. She also said that on date nights, only 20% of your conversation should be about your kids and the rest about the two of you. Anywho, I loved her message and thought I would share it with you. Take from it what you want and enjoy!
